We are located in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Since inception in 1988 our charter has been the Church of the Ascension, in 2019 we have now started to meet at the American Legion Post in Fountain Hills (More information is on our "How To Join" page). Troop 343 currently consists of 2 patrols: The FEDS and The LA Boiz. We have a strong emphasis on outings, with monthly activities including backpacking, camping, canoeing, rock climbing, caving, hiking, and more. In addition, our troop attends multiple summer camps each year, including Camp Geronimo, Lake Pleasant, Camp Raymond and a yearly high adventure outing like Philmont, Boundary Waters, Emerald bay, and others. We are a boy led troop looking for more boys to join and advance. We want to help as many new scouts as we can make it to Eagle and beyond! No adventure is too big for a group to tackle head on. We like to take on a challenge and make sure everyone can complete the challenge with help along the way! Whether the challenge is ranking up, going the extra mile on a backpacking trip or completing the Black Course at Flagstaff Extreme, the scouts and adults in the troop provide physical and emotional support through it all. Earning Ranks Example of an Eagle Scout Ceremony. Scouts can choose to make their own ceremony or do a traditional ceremony pictured above. It is a long way to the Eagle Scout rank and not many scouts complete this journey. To encourage scouts to keep at it, the troop tradition is for the scout to bake a cake when he ranks up. Tenderfoot rank, for example, is a one layer cake and you add layers to the cake all the way up until the rank of Life. When you complete your rank of Life scout, you bake your final cake that has five layers. Our chartering organization, the Church of the Ascension, provides a cake for the Eagle Court of Honor. Scout rank advancements happen at Courts of Honor. We usually have three a year. Cake is served, completed merit-badges are awarded, and every scout dresses in class A uniform to look nice.
